Drug Lord 2
The classic. Fifteen cities, seventeen products, seven ranks and thirty days to prove yourself. Drug Lord 2 strips the genre down to its core: one market, one departures list, a shop and a stack of debt. It takes minutes to learn and a long time to master.
How it plays
You start in Austin with $2,000: a thousand you scraped together and a thousand from Buddles, a loan shark who will want it back with interest. Every action that moves time forward, whether that's a flight or simply staying where you are, costs a day. Each rank has a deadline, so the clock is always running.
The home screen is an information board: where you are, your health, the day, your rank, cash, bank and debt. Below it sit six buttons, and that's the whole game:
- Market: everything for sale in your current city today. Tap a product to buy it, or tap something in your inventory to sell. Press and hold to see where today's price sits on the price graph. Events can make prices jump or crash overnight.
- Fly Away: pick a destination from fifteen cities. Fares depend on distance, so hopping between Detroit, Toronto and Austin is cheap, while Sydney costs a fortune from anywhere. Airport security gets more interested the more you carry.
- Shopping: weapons, ammunition, armour and the all-important can of no-scent, which keeps airport dogs off your trail.
- Shipping: when your loads get too big to hide in a suitcase, four courier services will move them for you. The more you pay, the better your chances of seeing the shipment again.
- Finances: the bank, and five loan sharks happy to lend when cash is short. Each lends on different terms, and all of them hurt you if you don't pay them back.
- Stay Here: skip a day without travelling. Sometimes the best trade is tomorrow's.
There is also a vault, where you can store as much as you like beyond your carry limit, but you can only visit it once a day. The menu lets you add extra days to a run and make a single-use save.
The rank ladder
Your rank is your net worth: cash plus bank. Reach the next threshold before your rank's deadline and you're promoted. Each promotion raises your carry limit and gives you more days, but it also brings tougher enemies, so keep your weapons up to date.

The deadline is the last day you can spend at that rank. If you haven't reached the next rank by then, the run is over.
The fifteen cities
Austin, Beijing, Boston, Detroit, London, Los Angeles, Miami, Moscow, New York, Paris, San Francisco, St Petersburg, Sydney, Toronto and Vancouver. They cluster naturally into cheap circuits: the North American east (Detroit, Toronto, Boston, New York, Austin, Miami), the west coast (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver), and Europe (London, Paris, St Petersburg, Moscow), with Beijing close to the European group. Sydney is the long-haul gamble.
A good early strategy is to pick two or three close cities and work them hard. Learn their price ranges, buy whatever is cheap today, and sell where it's expensive tomorrow. Only fly long-haul when a price gap is big enough to pay for the ticket.
Encounters
Four ways out
When police, gangs or a loan shark's collectors corner you, you can run, surrender, bribe or fight. Fighting needs a weapon and the right ammunition from the shop. You choose which weapon to fire each round.
Loan sharks
Odd Lenny, One-eyed Wilbur, Laughing Max, Strange-ear Leonard and Buddles. They lend fast and forget nothing. A loan can rescue a run, but interest piles up quickly, so borrow for a trade you're sure of and pay it back fast.
